Candida, Parasites, Dysbiotic bacteria, Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth and food intolerances may be linked to symptoms of IBS.

The CSA- Comprehensive Stool Analysis test looks at the first three of these potential causes and it does it brilliantly. It pinpoints things that are wrong that never seem to be discovered by NHS tests. Then the appropriate treatment can be started.

Here is a list of some of the areas that we explore at our clinic when looking for possible causes to IBS:

5

Yeast overgrowth (sometimes called Candida)

5

Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth

5

Unfriendly bacteria

5

Parasite Testing

5

Food intolerances

Sometimes only one is to blame. In many cases, 2, 3 or even 4 of these causes are all present in the same person. Unfortunately, people seldom look at more than one. That’s analogous to having four nails in your shoe. If you only get rid of one of them it will still hurt to walk!

How does your IBS treatment differ to the NHS?

Most of the people we see at our IBS clinic, have already been to the NHS and had a diagnosis of Irritable bowel syndrome. Please read our article on Secrets the NHS does not tell you.

Most of them tell us they are highly dissatisfied with the outcome and have not seen any improvement in their symptoms.

Often, they are told by their GPs that there is nothing else that can be done for them and are palmed off with a prescription.

Unfortunately, many patients continue to experience, painful and troublesome IBS symptoms, including bloating, diarrhoea, pain, constipation or brain fog and fatigue.

Typically the NHS will offer antispasmodics such as Mebeverine, or fybogel, Peppermint capsules and sometimes antidepressants.

Sadly this approach rarely appears to work. If dietary advice is given, a very restrictive Low-Fodmap diet seems to be the only advice offered.

What causes IBS?

There is still no known cause of IBS. Some of the areas that may be linked to your symptoms include:

Gut dysbiosis and Changes in your Gut Microbiome

Your large intestine is composed of multiple strains of bacteria, yeast or fungi and also viruses. If these microbes become out of balance this is termed as gut dysbiosis and may lead to IBS. We can help you restore balance through supplements and dietary modifications and sometimes we use Gut microbiome tests.

Food Poisoning and tummy bugs

Post-Infectious IBS can develop after gastroenteritis or severe food poisoning. This may manifest with loose stools  that do not seem to improve.  This can lead to a condition known as small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. We can help you  by providing you with diagnostic testing for SIBO and offer you professional advice on how to eradicate the bacteria through diet and supplements.

Food Intolerances

Are you confused by what foods may trigger your  IBS symptoms?  Many patients have tried diets such as the Low FODMAP diet but are confused on what type of foods to avoid.  We can help you  unravel offending foods and provide tailored dietary advice.

Stress

This is can be an aggravating factor for many patients but rather than be the underlying cause will exacerbate symptoms

Test for IBS

We offer a number of IBS tests that may help identify underlying causes of IBS. These include SIBO Tests & Gut Microbiome tests as well as Parasite and Candida tests.

We also offer blood tests for IBS including food intolerance testing.  Not everyone will require IBS testing. But in some cases tests may helpful to understand the best form of treatment.

Do you need help with Diet and IBS?

In some cases IBS may be triggered by food intolerances, these vary greatly from patient to patient and can be very confusing.

We will work with the you  to find the absolutely right individual diet,  avoiding the foods that trigger symptoms, and substituting others that will provide the utmost nutritional benefits but avoid provoking any symptoms. Improvements in health can be very quick.

We were fortunate enough to come runner-up in the CAM Awards  for Outstanding Practice. We have been trying hard to maintain this standard ever since, and have worked hard to provide our patients with the best possible cutting-edge help, advice and information.

What type of IBS testing do you offer at your clinic?

The main tests that we use to identify possible causes of IBS include:

How do I know what test to choose for IBS?

Please call us if you have any questions on 0345 1297996. Different tests are suited to different symptoms therefore we generally recommend booking in a consultation with an IBS specialist. This way we can learn more about your symptoms and give you the best possible professional advice.

Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) -(Hydrogen breath testing)

This test will identify if you have an overgrowth of bacteria in the small intestine. This condition is extremely common in patients with IBS and can include symptoms of bloating, wind, flatulence as well as constipation or diarrhoea. If this sounds like you, please do look at our page on ‘SIBO Testing’.

Parasite Testing

We offer Comprehensive Parasite tests and Stool Analysis Tests to detect parasitic infections inflammation, viruses, bacteria, digestive function, occult blood and white blood cells. Please have a look at our pages on ‘Parasites’.

Organic Acid Testing - (urine)

This is an excellent, easy to use test to detect yeast (candida) as well as bacterial overgrowth in your urine.

CSA - Comprehensive Stool Analysis

We offer the most innovative and sophisticated IBS tests including PCR tests, GI MAP test, GI effects and G1360 as well as Helicobacter testing. These are quite different to tests offered on the NHS. For more information please see our ‘Gut Bacteria Test’ page.

Food intolerance blood testing

Many of our clients symptoms can be linked to the foods that there are eating. We often use elimination diets to help them unravel the common offenders. We do this in conjunction with IGg blood test that looks at food intolerances. This can be very helpful as a guide to understand what foods are causing bloating pain constipation or diarrhea and other symptoms.

Candida Testing - (Blood, Saliva, Stool or urine)

Candida may also be linked with brain fog, fatigue, fermentation, bloating as well as constipation and diarrhoea. The main causes of a yeast overgrowth are linked to antibiotic use as well as diets high in sugar and yeast (marmite, bread, alcohol). If this sounds like you please look at our page on ‘Candida Testing’.

We can use stool urine or blood tests to test fungal and yeast overgrowth. The best test will depend very much on your specific case and we will give you professional advice. As regards treatment for Candida, we will also recommend anti-fungal supplements as well as dietary changes.

How do I know what test to choose for IBS?

Please call us if you have any questions on 0345 1297996. Different tests are suited to different symptoms therefore we generally recommend booking in a consultation with an IBS specialist. This way we can learn more about your symptoms and give you the best possible professional advice.

What approach do your IBS specialists take?

Our IBS specialists always look at the many possible root causes of IBS – we have found that for many patients there can more than one cause.

For example we often find that patients who have small intestinal bacterial overgrowth may also have underlying food intolerances as well as a fungal overgrowth!

Causes of IBS

What we do is look at the possible root causes of IBS as this may be a better way to help those suffering irritable bowel syndrome and truly understand what is causing your symptoms.

Please click the following link, ‘The Real Causes of IBS’, to read Positive Health magazine’s cover story article written by Michael Franklin.

Please take a look through the ‘The causes of IBS’ and success stories appearing on this website. They all contain details of cases from our IBS Clinic and Gut disorder Centre and mention some of the IBS treatments we use.

We particularly help people suffering from Candida, SIBO, and Yeast overgrowth as well unusual bacteria such as Klebsiella and Citrobacter freundii, from parasites such as Blastocystis hominis and Dientamoeba fragilis, and from yeast overgrowth such as Candida albicans and Geotrichum. We often use the ‘CSA- Comprehensive Stool Analysis’ and Comprehensive Parasitology Tests, PCR tests to help us identify the most effective treatment of IBS and associated conditions. These tests are a huge breakthrough in IBS treatment.
